Selection Process 选拔程序
The UNEP Sasakawa Prize will be chosen through a two-tier selection process. A selection panel, comprising one representative each from UNEP and The Nippon Foundation, plus two respected environmental experts and a UNEP Sasakawa Prize laureate, and will select a short-list of five candidates who will be announced at a press event on United Nations World Environment Day, 5 June. The three expert panellists will change each year, and will be chosen for their knowledge of the year’s theme. The theme for 2006 is deserts and desertification.
UNEP笹川环境奖将经过两级选拔程序选出。UNEP和日本基金会会分别派出一名代表，再加上2名知名的环境专家和一名笹川环境奖获得者组成一个遴选小组，列出一个包含有5名候选人的短名单。该名单将在6月5日联合国世界环境日的新闻发布会公布。遴选小组中的3名专家成员每年都会更换，是根据其知识专长和年度主题选出的。2006年的主题是沙漠化。

Form the five short-listed candidates a single winner will be selected by the UNEP Sasakawa Prize jury, comprising the UNEP Executive Director, the Chairman of The Nippon Foundation and three internationally recognized personalities known for their commitment to and understanding of environment and development. The three guest jury members are each invited to serve on the UNEP Sasakawa Prize jury for three years.

UNEP执行主任、日本基金会主席和三名环境与发展领域的国际知名人士会组成一个UNEP笹川环境奖评审委员会，从5人的短名单中选出一名获胜者。这三名客座评审委员分别被邀请在笹川环境奖评审委员会任职3年。

Selection Criteria 选拔原则
Nominations are welcome from all sectors of society, and particularly from individuals and organizations involved in and/or familiar with issues related to deserts and desertification.

来自社会各行各业的提名都受到欢迎，尤其是来自参与或者熟悉当年的主题领域（比如2006年的沙漠化主题）的个人和组织的提名。

No candidate may nominate himself or herself. Past recipients cannot be re-nominated.

候选人不能提名其本人。过去的获奖者不能够再被提名。

Length of Candidacy 候选资格
Nominees are considered annually. A new letter of nomination and an updated description of achievements will be required for each candidate.

被提名人将按年度考察。每个候选人都应当提交一份最新的提名函和一份最新的个人成就描述材料。

Nomination Procedures 提名程序

Identify candidate by completing this nomination form or nominate online at www.unep.org/sasakawa.
Include name, professional and home mailing address, present occupational title, institutional affiliation, nationality and date and place of birth.
Attach curriculum vitae/résumé.
Provide a maximum 500-word summary of the nominee’s achievements related to deserts and desertification, the theme for 2006. Be brief, precise and factual.
Further details of the nominee’s achievements and qualifications for the UNEP Sasakawa Prize, which explain the value, effectiveness and replicability of the nominee’s contribution to environmental sustainability may also be submitted. Mention any significant involvement of other people or institutions.
Submissions which do not comply with these criteria will not be considered.

通过完成提名表或者在www.unep.org/sasakawa提交在线提名确定候选人。
包含姓名、职业和家庭邮政地址、现在的职位头衔、所属机构、国籍和出生日期地点。
附加个人简历。

All nominations must be received by the UNEP Sasakawa Prize secretariat by 28 February 2006.

Evidence of Achievements 成就证明

The selection panel reserves the right to request examples of publications or other evidence that demonstrates the candidate's contributions within the scope of the year’s environmental theme. Such materials will be retained by UNEP unless otherwise requested.

遴选小组保留要求提供出版物或者其他能够证明候选人在当年度的环境主题领域的贡献的证据的权力。这些材料会由UNEP保存，除非有其他变动要求。

How the Prize will be used 如何使用该奖

Each short-listed candidate will be required to submit a statement of no more than 1,500 words explaining how the UNEP Sasakawa Prize will contribute towards achieving tangible goals.

每个短名单上的候选人会被要求提交一个不超过1500词的声明，说明将如何使用笹川环境奖取得针对切实目标的成果。

The winner of the UNEP Sasakawa Prize will be invited to deliver a progress report at the following year’s award ceremony.
